about

I wrote this when my daughter was in 3rd grade for her class to perform. They ended performing it about 6 times at various events throughout the Santa Clarita area.

lyrics

This Planet
by Matthew Levine

Green is an endangered color
It’s turning into brown and gray
The blueness of the sky is duller
Than it was yesterday
Is life here fading away?

Nature is calling, her patina’s appalling
Let’s scrub the Earth from shore to shore
From mountaintop to ocean floor
With some correction we can fix her complexion
We’ll get this planet lookin’ good once more

The hands of time are always ticking
Ticking are the hands of time
Fate is charging by the hour
Our fortune’s in decline
And our credit’s now on the line

Let’s work it together, we’ll be partners forever
Turning bottles into cash, recycling, we’re talkin’ trash
Today conservation is our top obligation
We’ll get this planet on its feet again (planets don’t have feet!)

We’ve got to be thinkin’ green
Cultivate a new routine
Or we will gather thorns of pain and sorrow, woe, woe
Dream farming is a daily art
Plow a furrow deep in your heart
And grow a better vision for tomorrow
So if our...
Love is directed and our job’s not neglected
Things won’t be all gloom and doom
When Mother Earth says “clean your room”
We’ll be protected if our home is respected
We’ll get this planet on it’s feet again
Dut dut dut dut duh-dut duh
Duh-dut dut dut dut duh-dut duh
We’ll be protected if our home is respected
We’ll get this planet on it’s feet again (planets don’t have feet!)
We’ll get this planet to beat the heat again (pass me an ice cube)
We’ll get this planet singin’ sweet again
Duh-dut dut duh-dut duh-duh-duh-dut, yeah
